  • 2023 Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip
    • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that the Israel Defense Forces will control the Gaza Strip after the war ends, rejecting calls for an international peacekeeping force to be stationed there. (The Times of Israel)
  • A video is released showing a Palestinian prisoner being used as a human shield during the Israeli operation in the West Bank. The prisoner is handcuffed, blindfolded and kneeling on a street, as an Israeli soldier takes cover behind him, while aiming his rifle. (Al Jazeera)
  • The UN human rights commissioner urges an investigation into Israel's use of "high-impact explosive weapons" in Gaza, which caused indiscriminate destruction in the enclave and also stated that Israel must "end its use of such weapons". (Reuters)
  • The UN human rights commissioner says that Israel must take immediate measures to protect Palestinians in the West Bank, saying that Palestinians were "subjected to violence from Israeli forces and settlers, ill treatment, arrests, evictions, intimidation and humiliation" on a daily basis.   • Six people are killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Human Rights Watch comments "hospitals must always be protected" and "no area is a free-fire zone", urging world leaders to act "to prevent further mass atrocities".(Al Jazeera)
  • Human Rights Watch warns that thousands of patients and civilians sheltering at Al-Shifa Hospital faced "grave risks" amid Israel's continued bombardment of Gaza. (Al Jazeera)
  • The Palestinian Red Crescent says Israeli forces bomb the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza near Al-Quds Hospital. (Al Jazeera)
  • The vicinity of Gaza's Patient's Friends Hospital is hit by an Israeli airstrike. Another Israeli strike is reported near the Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, resulting in damage to an ambulance. (Al Jazeera)
  • The director of Gaza's Al-Rantisi Children's Hospital says that an Israeli airstrike has hit the medical facility, causing a fire. (Al Jazeera)

• Mali War
  • Jihadist insurgents take about 30 Dogon men hostage after ambushing several public transport buses in central Mali. Several women taken hostage are later released. (Fox News)

  • Battle of Geneina
    • Between 700 to 1,300 people are killed, over one hundred are injured and around 300 are missing after clashes in Geneina. (Reuters)

• Israel–Hamas war
  • The United Nations warns that if the war in Gaza continues for a second month, poverty among Palestinians will increase by 34 percent, causing nearly half a million people to experience poverty. After a third month, GDP will decline by more than 12 percent, with losses of US$2.5 billion for the economy, and causing more than 660,000 people to experience poverty. (UNDP) (Al Jazeera)
• Logistics company DP World, which accounts for around 40% of Australia's freight transport, suspends operations at four ports in Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne, and Sydney, after a cyberattack was reported, which federal police is investigating. (The Independent)

• 2023–2024 Sundhnúkur eruptions
  • Iceland declares a state of emergency after a series of earthquakes occurs near the Fagradalsfjall volcano on the Southern Peninsula. The Icelandic Meteorological Office says that an eruption could occur in the coming days. (The Guardian)
• At least five people are killed and 12 others are injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a semi-trailer truck in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. (Xinhua)

  • Australia grants "special" freedom of movement and defence rights to Tuvaluans for residence and employment due to climate reasons. (AFP via Barron's)

  • The Dominican Republic accuses Haiti of multiple border violations after a brief standoff stemming from apparent confusion over border limits occurring on the northern tip of Hispaniola near one of more than 300 concrete barriers that delineate the border. (AP News)

• Israel–Hamas war protests
  • More than 500 former campaign staffers from US President Joe Biden's election campaign say that Biden "must call for a ceasefire" in Gaza and "take concrete steps to address the conditions of occupation, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing" underlying the conflict. (Vox)
