After the 2006 National Census, Bala Khiyaban-e Litkuh Rural District and Chelav Rural District were separated from the Central District in the establishment of Emamzadeh Abdollah District.
The census in 2011 counted 16,068 people in 4,804 households. At the latest census in 2016, the district had 17,791 inhabitants in 5,637 households.
