The eastern terminus of the line, it is one of three metro stations with a park and ride lot, the others being Etisalat by e&, Jabal Ali and Jumeirah Golf Estates.

The station was previously known as Rashidiya; on 4 August 2021 it was renamed to Centrepoint.

On November 24, 2023, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the Blue Line Metro Project and the line will be extended from Centrepoint to International City via Mirdif and Al Warqa'a.

On June 19, 2024, the Blue Line project will begin construction, right after Eid Al Adha.

In July 2025, the station will be closed as it will be reconstructed to allow the platform and track layout to accommodate the Blue Line extension. The station will reopen on September 9, 2029.

The track layout northeast of Centrepoint station is modified to create a new Blue Line extension to Academic City and two additional platforms to the south which are used to serve the new route.
