Battle of Tiruvadi
In an attempt to resist Shivaji's invasion with a force of 5,000 horsemen, Sher Khan launched a valiant attack against the Maratha vanguard. Despite his courage, Sher Khan's efforts proved futile as he and his entire army were swiftly routed, enveloped, and captured. Following his defeat, Shivaji seized control of Trinomali and began preparations to besiege Jinji. In the aftermath of the conflict, Sher Khan surrendered and sought refuge in the forest of Ariyalur with only 20 troopers, under the condition set by the Marathas that he would depart once his son was released. Though local chieftains contributed to the ransom, rumors circulated regarding Sher Khan's wife retaining valuable jewels. Sher Khan's son was eventually released around February 1678, briefly staying in Tiruchirapalli before returning to Ariyalur. However, Shivaji's officers' warnings prompted the Nayak of Ariyalur to force Sher Khan's departure.
