The New South Wales Police Force have arrested a 16 year old male over the attack. They have classified the stabbing as a terrorist attack, but have not revealed the name of the accused, who stated in Arabic after the assault, "if they didn’t insult my prophet, I wouldn’t have come here." Wakeley, where Christ The Good Shepherd Church is located, is home to many Christians belonging to the Assyrian diaspora, including Emmanuel himself.
