al-Tirmidhi
Muhammad ibn Isa al-Tirmidhi (Arabic: محمد بن عيسى الترمذي, romanized: Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā al-Tirmidhī; c. 824 – 9 October 892) was an Islamic scholar who authored the Sunan al-Tirmidhi, the fourth of the Six Books in Sunni Islam.

Born in Tirmidh, al-Tirmidhi studied under influential scholars, including al-Bukhari, al-Darimi and Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj. Al-Tirmidhi also wrote Shama'il al-Muhammadiyya, a compilation of hadiths concerning the person and character of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad.
Al-Tirmidhi was also well versed in Arabic grammar, favoring the school of Kufa over Basra due to the former's preservation of Arabic poetry as a primary source.
