Kawakami, Nagano

Kawakami (川上村, Kawakami-mura) is a village located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 April 2019, the village had an estimated population of 4,009 in 1419 households, and a population density of 19 persons per km2. The total area of the village is 209.61 square kilometres (80.93 sq mi). The village office is located at an altitude of 1,185 meters, the highest of any municipality in Japan. Kawakami is famous for its lettuce, as well as the Kawakami breed of dogs, Kawakami Inu.
