By day, KBRT is powered at 50,000 watts, the maximum for American AM stations. But it is a Class D station broadcasting on the Canadian clear-channel frequency of 740 AM. So to avoid interference with Class A station CFZM Toronto and Class B station KCBS San Francisco, at night KBRT greatly reduces power to 190 watts. It uses a directional antenna with a four-tower array. The transmitter is on Black Star Canyon Road in Santa Ana. KBRT is licensed by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to broadcast in the HD Radio hybrid format. Programming is also heard on 13-watt FM translator K274CI at 100.7 MHz in Corona.
