Jia Ling

Jia Ling (Chinese: 贾玲, born Jia Yuling on (1982-04-29)April 29, 1982), is a Chinese comedian, crosstalk (xiangsheng) and sketch performer, film actress, producer and director born in Xiangyang, Hubei province.

Jia Ling graduated from Central Academy of Drama in 2003 and became a disciple under xiangsheng veteran Feng Gong in 2005. She rose to fame as a comedy performer after appearing at the 2010 Spring Festival Gala and went on to become a very popular guest in numerous variety shows. She later founded her own company Big Bowl Entertainment in 2016 with fellow comedian Sun Jibin and Li Kun.

In 2021, the first film Jia Ling wrote and directed (and co-starred), Hi, Mom, became the second-highest-grossing film of all time in China with a box office revenue of over 5.3 billion yuan, also making her the highest-grossing female director at the time until overtaken by Greta Gerwig's Barbie in 2023. Her second directorial film YOLO (2024), which she also lead-acted and lost over 50 kg (110 lb) in 12 months to fit the role, broke the box office record of Chinese New Year films with a revenue of 2.6 billion yuan.
