Inauguration of Ramon Magsaysay

The inauguration of Ramon Magsaysay as the seventh president of the Philippines took place on Wednesday, December 30, 1953, at the Independence Grandstand in Manila. The inauguration marked the commencement of the four-year term of Ramon Magsaysay as president and of Carlos P. Garcia as vice president. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines Ricardo Paras. For the first time, a Philippine president in the person of Magsaysay swore on the Bible on an inauguration. He swore on two Bibles, each from his parents' side. This was also the first time that an incoming president wore Barong Tagalog on his inauguration, a tradition that still continues up to this day.
