Giaour or Gawur (/ˈaʊər/; Turkish: gâvur, Turkish pronunciation: [ɟaˈvuɾ]; from Persian: گور gâvor; Romanian: ghiaur; Albanian: kaur; Greek: γκιαούρης, romanized: gkiaoúris; Macedonian: каур/ѓаур; Bulgarian: гяур; Bosnian; kaur/đaur) meaning "infidel", is slur used mostly in the lands of the former Ottoman Empire for non-Muslims or, more particularly, Christians in the Balkans.
