General Recorded Tape
General Recorded Tape was an American manufacturer of reel to reel, 8-track and cassette tapes that existed between 1965 and 1979. The company grew to become the owner of several prominent U.S. record labels, including Chess Records and Janus Records.

In 1985, GRT and Janus Records were acquired by Elektra/Asylum Records, and later transferred to Hollywood Records in 1989. In December 2001, libraries were sold to Universal Music Group's Interscope Geffen A&M Records for $3.1 million.
