Gen Olson
Gen Olson (born May 20, 1938) is a retired teacher and Republican politician who is a former member of the Minnesota Senate representing portions of Hennepin and Wright counties in the western Twin Cities metropolitan area. She was the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota in the 1998 Minnesota gubernatorial election and also unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination in the 1994 United States Senate election in Minnesota.

She was first elected to the Senate in 1982, and was re-elected in all the way until her retirement 2010. She served as an assistant minority leader from 1989 to 1990 and president pro tempore from 2011 until 2013.
