Coman started out at Viitorul Constanța in 2015, and won a national championship in his second full season at the club. In 2017, he signed with FCSB in a transfer worth an eventual €3 million, representing the then-highest fee paid by a Liga I side. With the latter, Coman claimed a Cupa României trophy in the 2019–20 campaign. Individually, he was named to the Liga I Team of the Season four times.
Coman made his senior debut for Romania in October 2019, after previously being capped at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels. He represented the latter side in the 2019 UEFA European Championship, where they were eliminated by Germany in the semi-finals.
