Flatey, Skjálfandi

Flatey (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈflaːtˌeiː] ) is an island on Skjálfandi bay located about 8.7 kilometres (4+1116 nautical miles) from Húsavík, in northern Iceland. Its name in Icelandic means "flat island"; its highest point is only about 22 metres (72 feet) above mean sea level, hence its name. It is 2.5 kilometres (1+12 miles) long and 1.7 kilometres (1+116 miles) wide. It is the fifth-largest island around Iceland. The Flateyjardalur coast and Flateyjardalsheiði valley are named after Flatey.
