Since 1967, the municipality is named after Enrique Magalona, former Senator of the Philippines and the grandfather of the late Filipino rap icon Francis Magalona. It was previously named Saravia, after Don Emilio Saravia, the first political-military governor in the island during the Spanish era.
The town is also known for the Tomongtong Mangrove Eco-Trail.
