Together with Emil Cioran, Eugen Ionescu, and Arșavir Acterian, he was a member of the literary group called Corabia cu ratați ("The Losers' Ship").
Botta graduated in 1932 from the Dramatical Art Conservatory of Bucharest.
He was married for a while to actress Maria Mimi Botta.
He was the younger brother of poet Dan Botta.
