Under DART's naming policy, transfer centers are facilities similar to a transit center but without park-and-ride lot. Both transfer centers and transit centers are locations that facilitate transfers among routes and includes amenities such as a climate-controlled waiting area.

The East Transfer Center has 16 bus stands (also known as bus bays) laid out in a circle, lettered A through P. There is a climate-controlled waiting area in the middle of the bus stands.

A light rail subway station is planned to be constructed at the transfer hub as part of the D2 Subway project.
