Held in the fall, the race was part of the NASCAR playoffs from their start in 2004 until 2020, when the race was moved to the penultimate weekend of the regular season. However, that event then became part of a doubleheader with the rescheduled spring race in August due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The race length was also shortened to 311 miles for both events. The race was left off of the schedule in 2021 as Dover Motorsports, the track's owner, elected to move one of its two dates to Nashville Superspeedway as part of a schedule realignment.
