Ngarewa-Packer stood for Te Pāti Māori during the 2020 election in the seat of Te Tai Hauāuru. The party entered Parliament due to Waititi's win of an electorate seat, and Ngarewa-Packer joined him as its only other MP. In 2023, she won Te Tai Hauāuru and remained in Parliament, this time as one of six MPs for the party.
