The 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies proposes the constituency be split in two, with the majority, comprising areas to the north of the River Dee, including the city centre, being combined with the town of Neston to form Chester North and Neston, to be first contested at the next general election. Areas to the south of the river will be added to Eddisbury, to be renamed Chester South and Eddisbury.
