After the National Census of 2006, the county was created from the division of Borkhar and Meymeh County into Borkhar County and Shahin Shahr and Meymeh County.
The census in 2011 counted 175,886 people in 51,664 households. At the latest census in 2016, the district had 211,606 inhabitants in 66,338 households.
