After the 2006 National Census, Taghenkuh District and Takht-e Jolgeh District were separated from Nishapur County in the establishment of Firuzeh County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Firuzeh as its capital.
The census in 2011 counted 21,513 people in 6,273 households. At the latest census in 2016, the district had 20,787 inhabitants in 6,481 households.
