A few months later, the song was covered by Wayne Newton and released as a single. It reached No. 3 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart and No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972. The song also reached No. 8 on the Canadian adult contemporary chart and No. 32 on the Canadian top singles chart. It was featured on his 1972 album, Can't You Hear the Song?
