Awang Hassan

Tun Dr. Awang bin Hassan (Jawi: اواڠ بن حسن; 9 November 1910 – 12 September 1998) was a Malaysian politician who served as the 5th Yang di-Pertua Negeri (Governor) of Penang from 1981 until his retirement in 1989. He had previously served as the 7th Malaysian High Commissioner to Australia from 1973 to 1980.

In this Malay name, there is no surname or family name. The name Hassan is a patronymic, and the person should be referred to by their given name, Awang. The word "bin" or "binti"/"binte" means 'son of' or 'daughter of', respectively.
