Akhvakhsky District

Akhvakhsky District (Russian: Ахвахский райо́н; Avar: Гӏахьвахъ мухъ) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the forty-one in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia. It is located in the west of the republic. The area of the district is 291.1 square kilometers (112.4 sq mi). Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Karata. As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 22,014, with the population of Karata accounting for 18.9% of that number.
