Ahmadi was born in 1940 in Kerman, Iran. He moved to Tehran in 1948. In Tehran, he attended the "Adab" (Persian: ادب) school. Then, in 1954, entered Dar ol-Fonoun. According to Ahmadi, writer Abdorrahim Ahmadi (his maternal nephew) and Mohammad Shirvāni (his teacher at Dar ol-Fonoun), were instrumental in the development of his love for literature.
Ahmadi's first book of poetry, Tarh (Persian: طرح, lit. 'Sketch'), was published in 1962. His poetry had its roots in French Surrealism and the American Imagists, especially from poets such as Saint John Perse, Paul Éluard, Louis Aragon, and Ezra Pound.
Ahmadi died on 11 July 2023, at the age of 83.
