As of now, he occupies two prominent posts in Iranian politics namely as chairman of the Assembly of Experts, the body charged with choosing the Supreme Leader, and as chairman of the Guardian Council, the body in charge of checking legislation approved by Majlis with the Constitution and sharia, and approving the candidates in various elections. Although many believe that he is too old to be running two of the most significant organisations in the country, however, the trust that Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader has in Janati, has kept him in power despite all the criticism.
